Back Stage At Monsters Of Rock, CA – July 24th, 1988

OK, this is a funny story, being that I was the only lady photographer at the Monsters of Rock show. I’m not going to say that it always worked in my favor, but backstage it might have. Billy was sitting there drinking a Perrier. It was surprising to me, but that’s what he was drinking! Anyway, I noticed other photographers buzzing around trying to get photos of him. They were quickly shooed away by Billy’s bodyguard. He was a big dude and if you look at the photo closely you can see his crossed arms in the background.

I have always loved Billy since “Rebel Yell” and I already had most of his albums and that fairly new technology, CDs.

I came up to him slowly and I politely asked him if I could take a few photos of him, to my surprise he said YES! (I remember he was cracking up at my press pass and the name of the magazine I was shooting for). I asked him to give me the “Billy Sneer” and he obliged. I thanked him and went on my merry way. I remember some other photographer asking, “Why does SHE get to take photos of you?” Billy replied, “Because she asked me.”
